Samsung launched a new “Tap to Transfer” feature for Samsung Wallet on Tuesday, allowing Galaxy smartphone users in the US to instantly send money to friends and family directly from their devices starting later this month. This tool aims to simplify peer-to-peer transactions by reducing the friction of traditional transfer apps.

Tap to Transfer is a new Samsung Wallet feature for quick payments.

Seamless Cross-Platform Payments Powered by NFC
Through strategic partnerships with financial giants Visa and Mastercard, Galaxy device owners can initiate transfers using a debit card linked to their Samsung Wallet. The system utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to send money directly to a recipient’s bank account within minutes. Remarkably, this feature works even if the recipient uses a digital wallet on a non-Samsung device or holds a physical debit card with contactless capabilities.
Remote Transfers and Enhanced Convenience
Physical proximity is not a requirement for the new service. Samsung Wallet users can easily transfer funds to other Samsung Wallet accounts remotely. To initiate a long-distance transfer, users simply need to search for the recipient’s registered phone number linked to their Samsung account.
“Many users want the flexibility to accomplish their most frequent and important tasks on their mobile device,” stated Drew Blackard, Samsung Electronics America’s senior vice president of mobile product management. “Samsung Wallet will help make payments to friends and family quick and convenient.”

The Rapid Rise of Digital Wallets
Originally launched in 2022, Samsung Wallet serves as a comprehensive digital hub for storing credit cards, boarding passes, digital IDs, and loyalty programs. Operating similarly to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, these platforms streamline the checkout process through contactless tap-to-pay technology. The adoption of these digital tools is accelerating rapidly; the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau projects that the total value of digital wallet tap-to-pay transactions will grow by more than 150% by 2028.
Alternative Digital Payment Options
With peer-to-peer payment landscapes shifting—including the recent shutdown of the standalone Zelle application—consumers are actively seeking reliable alternatives. Exploring top-rated digital wallets and alternative payment applications can help you find the most efficient ways to manage and send your money digitally.
